Design of the Project:

1. Revisit the framework:
a. Learning Objectives: Students will be able to....
  • listen to a peer's composition and analyze the expressiveness of the lyrics
and the accompaniment.
  • compose an original song by creating lyrics for a verse - refrain song, and
then adding a simple ostinato accompaniment on top.

b. 21st Century Skills:
  • Students will have a role in a cross-functional team
  • Students will respond to the problem of "how to express emotions and
feelings" using technology

c. Identifying learning dispositions: Students will develop....
  • listening to others with empathy
  • how to take responsible risks

2. Evidence of Understanding:
  • Blog/Tweet/Journal Entries of how feelings towards graduation change
over time
  • Composition revisions (different colors for different students)
  • Their job within their group (Leader/Presenter, Scribe #1, Researcher,
Scribe #2, Interviewer, Scribe #3, Compiler Scribe)
  • Participation in class discussions
  • Portfolio of Journals, Summary Journal, Music, and Lyrics revision sheets

3. Project Theme or Challenge:

  • How to express conflicting emotions using music as the medium of
expression

4. Entree into the Project:
  • Show students a powerpoint on faces of different emotions with the
question "What events in life produce all these emotions at the same
time?"
  • Get into groups and discuss what events would produce the emotions
(Leading towards graduation)
  • Discuss emotions and different ways to express them (art, music, poetry,
dance, etc...)
